Week Four Entry

Vision and Manipulation: An Introduction to Digital Photography

This week we focused on Digital Photography; we got a tour of the Media and Film Studio (green room) where we have access to film using all the equipment available. It was great to see and feel, walking into a film studio with all the lighting surrounding you and the green wall in the background. Then we had the opportunity to go out and photograph the St. Albans campus with our digital cameras.

In the class with our photos we had taken we started working with the computer program Adobe Photoshop...it is a great program with many different techniques to manipulate your photos and change their appearance.

From the discussion at the beginning of the class there was a list of landscape photographers that was found from; Bright, S. 2005, Art Photography Now, Thames and Hudson, UK. They were;
  • Elina Brotherus
  • Joel Stemfeld
  • Richard Misrach
  • Doug Aitken
  • Andreas Gursky
  • Dan Holdsworth

Richard Misrach:

Pyramid Lake (at night), (2004) Richard Misrach

"For more than twenty years, Richard Misrach has been photographing the American desert, revealing a complex landscape that is as captivating as it is mysterious.Through his numerous cantos's [groups of pictures] Misrach has created one of the most extensive projects in contemporary photography." http://www.edelmangallery.com/misrach-bio.htm

  • From looking at this artist, I really liked his photographs as I think that they are very powerful and beautiful, and I also think that it relates closely to my theme of nature and the outdoors.
